Vegas in Space Art and Design

While Vegas in Space was a collaborative effort, it was driven by Doris Fish’s vision and powered by her prodigious talents. As production designer she created the sets and props, designed the characters and costumes, and handled virtually all of the makeup and hair.

The published image for "Nine Planets in Seven Days-Never Again!" Doris Fish and Miss X photographed by Ken Towles for West Graphics, 1983.

Doris and the Sluts explored science fiction inspired drag looks in their photoshoots for West Graphics greeting cards. The Nine Planets in Seven Days-Never Again classic image has Doris in a look that would end up on Miss X as Empress Vel Crawford, and Miss X is wearing the cape and cowl of Queen Veneer’s initial outfit in the movie. Unpublished photos from the West Graphics Ken Towles shoots show Doris in a very cute alien look with blue skin and red curly hair, another with a green tinted makeup job and huge red wig. The red Beauty Booster jumpsuit with fringe from the finale number is used for both looks.
