While many of the sets in Vegas in Space are as cheap and simple as possible, the interior of the USS Intercourse is surprisingly sophisticated. The set was a fancy Star Wars inspired retail store display Doris brought home from a second hand store. Complete with working light panels, dials and computer reels, the set was assembled with the help of her visiting brother Andrew in the living room at 422 Oak St.
Footage from one of Doris’ Betamax tapes shows the queens playing like little kids with the set, improvising dialogue and making corny jokes. This looks to be late 1983 when they were doing their Screamgirls show with the yellow, red, and blue themed costumed. Doris is seen in photos on the set wearing the Empress Nueva Gabor headdress.
